If you look for a sense of control in the world outside of you, you might even find yourself trying to control other people, trying to change their behaviours, so that they might behave towards you in the way that you think is going to make you feel good inside. And you might be wrong, or you might be right.
For me personally, to have a real sense of control in my life, is to have a sense control inside. Because to really feel in control is to feel in control of how you think, to feel in control of how you feel, and also to feel in control of how you behave.
Because if you’re in control of how you think, and in control of how you feel, and in control of how you behave, that no matter what’s happening in your world, you’re going to be able to respond rather than to react to life. And everything’s going to go so much better for you.
People feel relaxed with people who feel relaxed inside. People feel anxious with people who feel anxious inside.
So if you can learn to focus your sense of control from the world outside of you, to the world inside of you, well, then you’re really going to begin to learn safety, and to feel empowered and in control of your entire life.
I know that for many people the problem is that they feel out of control, because they feel overwhelmed by their emotion. People feel anxious, and then they feel anxious about feeling anxious, and the anxiety becomes bigger. People feel depressed, and they feel depressed about becoming depressed. And then the depression becomes bigger, and so on and so forth.
Because emotion is fundamentally energy in motion. No matter what you’re feeling, if you’re able to take your attention to that feeling, and to learn to feel safe, to actually listen to what your emotions are communicating, because all of your emotions are fundamentally communicating your needs. You’re gonna find that it’s actually a sense of power behind every single emotion.
If when there’s a really, really strong emotion that arises, if you have real tools and techniques to be able to work with that emotion. What that means is to listen to it, to process it, to breathe with it, to allow the emotion to communicate.
There are so many practical, emotional tools for learning how to work with your emotions. Then what you’re going to discover is that emotion itself is gonna seem less scary to you.
You’re going to move from a pattern of resisting your own feelings, to a pattern of accepting your own feelings.
And you’re gonna discover that all of your emotions are actually a map towards inner alignment.
