How can therapy help you?

Therapy provides the opportunity to explore troubling emotions that may be blocking progress on one's life path. Many people benefit from the opportunity to speak in a confidential way and receive the support that personal therapy offers.

Nicholas Harris is Master level member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He guides therapy sessions in person and over Skype.

Nick views emotions as being the body’s way of communicating and external reality as being the reflection of internal conditions.

In his therapy sessions, Nick helps his clients to understand the internal world of beliefs, thoughts and emotions and how the inner world is affecting external reality. Using hypnosis, therapeutic change is made at the level of the made and reflects quickly into changes in one’s life.

While Nick views life as being a process of growth and every situation as an opportunity for growth and learning, he works within the belief system of his clients, making this unique form of personal work available to everyone.

What happens in a therapy session?

Private therapy sessions are held in a one-on-one environment at The Chiang Mai Wellness Centre. During the first session, the aim is to begin to make a connection between the therapist and the client and to begin to create an understanding of the challenge(s) that are present in the client’s life.

It is often the case that challenges are related to one another, therefore during the first session time is made to begin to chart a therapeutic plan moving forward.

Naturally, the content discussed during the therapy sessions is 100% private and confidential.

Therapy sessions are 1.5 - 2 hours in duration. This time is divided between counselling and active inner work.

The counselling portion of the session gives an opportunity to talk about emotions in an open and secure way that is totally free of judgement.

Following the “talking” portion of the session, Nick guides his clients in deep inner work with the aim of resolve personal challenges at the level of the mind.

Being trained in a multitude of therapeutic modalities, all of which are holistic and make use of the power of consciousness for healing, Nick integrates the many tools that he has studied in a truly unique form of personal work.

Please following the links below to learn more about the change techniques that Nick integrates in his private sessions.

Hypnosis is defined as a state of focused concentration in which the mind is focused on one thing to the exclusion of everything else. During hypnosis, the mind is highly suggestive. Imagery is used to communicate to the subconscious mind and create changes in patterns of conscious thought and behaviour.

Hypnotherapy uses the hypnotic state for personal therapy. Therapeutic interventions are conducted within the hypnotic state, which is a powerful way to develop in self confidence and access inner wisdom.

Active hypnotherapy helps clients bring peace to the past, develop presence in the now and build confidence in the future.

One of the characteristics of the hypnotic state is an increased access to the contents of one’s memory. During regression, the focus is on guiding the client back to uncover the root cause of emotions that repeat in their life. Under hypnosis, the emotional content of memories can be “changed”, thus quickly alleviating many problems at their root.

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) consists of a set of therapy techniques developed by Richard Bandler and John Grindler as part of their PhD at the University of California Santa Cruz.

Bandler and Grindler sought to understand the internal characteristics that “successful people” share. How do people who enjoy success model the world at the level of their mind? And can this way of thinking be taught to other people?

The change modalities developed as part of the NLP protocols were developed in response to these questions.

EFT (the emotional freedom technique) is a brief therapy technique in which disturbing emotions are focused on while “tapping” on energetic meridians in the body.

During EFT therapy, negative patterns of thought are “tapped out” and positive patterns of thought are “tapped in”. EFT helps change limiting patterns of emotion and reaction.

EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprogramming) is a trauma processing technique developed by Francine Shapiro. It has been shown to be highly effective for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

During EMDR, traumatic images are isolated and processed through a combination of thought process and eye movements.

Parts therapy

Parts therapy views the personality as being composed of many different aspect which naturally rise and fall into and out of conscious awareness in response to the needs of our moment. Indeed, it is healthy to speak and behave in a different way when with our partner or with our boss!

Psychological health is understood to be the result of every “part” working together as a team. Parts therapy understands that every thought, every emotion and every behaviour is generated by one part of consciousness for a reason. Exploring the psychological make up personal difficulties, it is often found that problems are often generated by a part of consciousness with a “secondary gain”. There is something that the part is seeking to give the person through the re-creation of the situation. Internal conflicts are addressed in parts therapy through direct communication between parts under hypnosis.

Creative visualisation

Creative visualisation is an umbrella term that covers any form of therapy process in which images are used to communicate to the subconscious mind.

Creative visualisation therapy processes can be employed in the normal waking state as well as in deeper states of hypnosis. The deeper one is relaxed into trance, the more powerfully visualisation techniques affect the subconscious mind.

How can therapy help you to improve your life?

As every situation in our lives is a reflection of the mind, personal therapy can help almost any situation in our lives.

Confidence boosting

Confidence is an underlying emotional feeling of trust and well being. Resolving inner conflict and creating a positive expectation of future circumstance leads to positive thoughts and feelings. To have confidence is to have a fundamental trust in oneself and to feel empowered to act according to inner knowing.

Depression is usually characterised by a frequent negative thoughts, low energy, low self-esteem and a general lack of interest in life. Having lost interest in the things that used to define them, the depressed person often does not see the point of life at all. It is as if a cloud is covering every thought and every action.

The treatment for depression begins with isolating the way that someone is “depressing themselves” in the now. What are the thoughts that are running through their heads? What situations in their lives are a constant source of fresh depression. Is there something that happened in the past, that they are continuing to depress themselves over.

Treatment for depression can take a patient into the past or the future in order to help them to experience a shift in their consciousness in the present.

Overcome addiction

Addiction can be defined as a behaviour over which one has little or no control. As every behaviour follows an emotion, treating addiction involves working through the underlying emotions that lead to substance abuse.

Addictions often treated using hypnotherapy include alcoholism, drug use and stopping smoking.

Fears, phobias and anxiety

Fear and anxiety are limiting factors in many people’s life. A phobia is defined as a fear leading to avoidance behaviour (usually avoiding the situation that the person feels scared of). Phobias can be generalised or localised (such as fear of spiders, fear of heights or fear of flying).

Anxiety is one of the leading symptoms resulting in many people feeling as if their emotions are leading their life choices, rather than the other way around. Severe anxiety can manifest in panic attacks - a symptom that many people have found relief from using hypnosis.

Weight loss

Weight is a reflection of lifestyle. In particular, one’s weight is a reflection of the foods that one eats, the exercise that one engages in and the emotions that one feels.

Hypnotherapy aims to help people to lose weight by upgrading each of these elements of life, paying particular attention to obstacles that may come up and guiding the client to overcome them.

Most people who find it hard to sleep will report that they either simply can’t get their mind to “calm down” or that they wake up thinking about the list of things that they have to do.

Insomnia is often a response to life problems and can of itself cause more problems as a good night’s sleep is essential in order to perform at our peak ability.

Therapy at identifying and overcoming the obstacles to sleep.

Post traumatic stress disorder

Post traumatic stress disorder is a condition which often manifests after either a sustained period of subjection to trauma (such as a war situation) or a particularly traumatic event that led to significant loss in an individual’s life (such as a car crash).

Therapy seeks to address suppressed memories and release repressed emotional material. This often involves a combined use of EMDR and Hypnotherapy.

Relationship counselling

Relationships present the most fertile of all learning opportunities because it is through relationships that unhealed emotions from the past are so clearly triggered. Many people experience remarkably similar situations that seem to repeat over different intimate relationships in our lives.

Relationship counselling is available to individuals and couples. The aim is to focus on the inner emotions that are being activated in personal relationship and teach self empowerment tools through which the client is able to recognise and transcend them.
